Italian cinema at SIFF 2013 offers an interesting display of the most varied Italian brand new films.
One film in the Official Selection, 9 films in a special Focus Italy, and one film in the Spectrum
section compose a large and flattering selection we are very proud of, and are the evidence of
how SIFF always pays attention to the different aspects of Italian movie production.
Me and You, the last work by a true Master of Italian Cinema such as Bernardo Bertolucci, will
play in the Official Selection.
The Focus Italy 2013 includes films by well-known directors such as Matteo Garrone\u2019s Reality,
which was awarded the Special Jury Prize in Cannes 2012, Giuseppe Piccioni\u2019s The Red And
The Blue and Francesca Comencini\u2019s A Special Day, along with a varied representation of
Italian cinema\u2019s \u201cnew generation\u201d such as Maria Sole Tognazzi\u2019s A Five Star Life, Rolando
Ravello\u2019s No Place Like Home, Paolo Genovese\u2019s A Perfect Family. On top of that, the Focus
will show three surprising first features: Leonardo Di Costanzo\u2019s The Interval, Daniele Cipr\u00ec\u2019s It
Was The Son and Giancarlo Giannini\u2019s The Gambler Who Wouldn\u2019t Die, three surprising first
features by directors who have already been internationally acclaimed ambassadors of Italian
Cinema for their works in the world of Documentary, Cinematography and Acting, respectively.
For the second consecutive year, Italian cinema is also represented in the Spectrum section,
which spotlights the latest works in cutting-edge contemporary cinema, with Voices In The
Dark by Rodolfo Bisatti.
In the past twelve years, over 120 Italian films were presented by delegations of top Italian film
talents at the Shanghai International Film festival, providing the Chinese audiences with an
in-depth view on contemporary Italian Cinema.
Shanghai International Film Festival continues to be the ideal platform for Italian cinema
in China, and a great potential market for all Europeans to seek cooperative opportunities with
Chinese film industry. That is why we are also pleased to join the SIFF Film Market, which we
believe will become a key-event for international film industry.
The presence of Italian Cinema in Shanghai is always a source of richness and cultural
growth for both countries and will be organized to the best advantage with the joint efforts
of Istituto Luce-Cinecitt\u00e0 – Filmitalia, the Italian Trade Commission Shanghai Office,
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and The Italian Cultural Institute, Consulate General
of Italy in Shanghai.
