The study visa allows entry into Italy, for short or long term stays, for the purpose of study, vocational training or educational internship.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR BOTH SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM STUDY VISA APPLICANTS

Students applying for both short and long term Study visas (Schengen or National) to take any course at Italian Universities and AFAM Institutions or to enroll in the Marco Polo Turandot program will have to access the UNIVERSITALY portal in order to fill out the relevant pre-enrollment/enrollment application in telematic mode, as stated on the MUR circular published on the Studiare in Italia portal.

Therefore, in addition to the documentation required for the issuance of study visa, as further specified below for the different types of study visas, students must also submit the summary of the application generated by the platform and validated by the University/AFAM.

a) University enrollments

Foreign citizens who have made regular pre-enrollment through the UNIVERSITALY portal for attendance of bachelor’s or master’s degree programs at Italian universities or Institutes of Higher Education in Art and Music (AFAM) for the relevant academic year, and who have obtained validation from the University, may apply for a “study visa – matriculation” by the deadline of November 29, 2024 at the latest.

In addition to the documentation required for the issuance of study visa, students should also submit the pre-enrollment application summary generated by the Universitaly portal, validated by the University/AFAM. In addition, if requested by the University/AFAM, they will also have to submit their original degrees, translated into Italian and legalized, and the Declaration of Value, which can be replaced by the Diploma Supplement or ENIC-NARI certificates issued by CIMEA.

In the event that the University/AFAM requires the Dichiarazione di Valore, students must apply for it to this Student Office, before they can apply for a visa, following the procedures published on our website.

b) Marco Polo – Turandot Program.

Chinese citizens who have made regular pre-registration through the UNIVERSITALY portal for attending degree programs at Italian universities or Institutions of Higher Education in Art and Music (AFAM) for A.Y. 2024-2025 through the Marco Polo – Turandot Program and have also enrolled in language courses, may apply for study visas by following the checklist.

Note to all students resuming studies in Italy after a break or after attending courses at other universities abroad.

Foreign students already enrolled at an Italian university who have temporarily suspended their studies and foreign students regularly enrolled at an Italian university who, in application of multilateral student mobility agreements between universities, have attended semester or annual courses abroad, may apply for a re-entry visa by submitting a certificate of regular enrollment in the respective academic year (together with the regular payment of university fees) with a list of the university exams taken and their own motivated letter (possibly supported by appropriate documentation) corroborating the reasons for the suspension of their studies.

 

(c) Enrollment in single undergraduate courses, postgraduate study or exchange programs.

(d) Vocational training and internship

Visas to participate in vocational training programs or internships, must be applied for by providing the documents as listed in the following checklist.

 

(e) Language courses at private schools.

Visas to attend language courses at private schools must be applied for by providing the documents as listed in the following checklist.

Please note that for the granting of study visas aimed at attending Italian language courses, Article 44bis, paragraph 2, letter ”a” of Presidential Decree 394/1999 applies, which stipulates that the courses must be:

– of a higher level

– full-time and of fixed duration

– the consistency of the courses to be taken in Italy with the training acquired in the country of origin must be verified

– having ascertained the economic availability, the validity of the enrollment or pre-enrollment of the course to be taken in Italy

Since these are higher level courses students are required to have previous knowledge of the Italian language (or the language in which the course will be delivered) which must be verified. As stipulated in the MUR circular for A.Y. 2024/2025, the minimum required level of proficiency in Italian is equal to at least B2

 

(f) Research

The research visa allows those with a higher education degree appropriate to conduct doctoral studies to conduct research at universities or research institutes recognized by the Italian Ministry of University and Research.

(g) Postgraduate study

Foreign students enrolled at public or private Italian universities authorized to award degrees with legal value to postgraduate courses such as master’s, doctoral, specialization and advanced degrees must submit the documents listed in the following checklist.
